Overflow Rooms Added for NASMM 2019
Due to overwhelming need, NASMM has added an overflow hotel property to accommodate NASMM 2019 Attendees. You can now make a reservation at the Hampton Inn Mission Valley. This property is just seven minutes from the Hilton! The room rate is $149 single/double occupancy. You can make your reservation by calling 800-426-7866 and mentioning the "National Association of Senior Move Managers block" or code SM2 at the Hampton Inn San Diego Mission Valley. If you are currently holding a reservation at the San Diego Hilton Resort & Spa and are not planning to attend NASMM 2019, please release the room.

NASMM Board Selects Two Scholarship Recipients
The NASMM Board of Directors has selected the following members to receive full scholarships for NASMM 2019. Congratulations to Kim Stanley, Downsize My Home, LLC, Cedar Park, TX and Isaac Neustadt, Silverlink Solutions, Inc., Lakewood NJ. Both recipients receive a full conference registration and three nights lodging for NASMM 2019.

NASMM Now Accepting Submissions for Ignite 2019
Consider being part of an innovative and exciting learning format - NASMM 2019 Ignite — a showcase of five-minute talks that might be bold, possibly brash, maybe even brilliant — but never boring! It's the learning format that's fast, fun, and focused where each speaker gets 20 slides, auto-advancing every 15 seconds, for 5 minutes total.

The international Ignite motto is "enlighten us, but make it quick!" Thus, Ignite is storytelling more than presenting. Given five minutes to speak with brief visual aides, what would you share with other SMMs? What would you most like to learn from your colleagues? Would you tell a humorous story? Teach a hack? Explain your passion for an unusual hobby?

The Comforting Fictions of Dementia Care
The large central room of the memory-care unit was designed to look like an old-fashioned American town square. There was a small fountain, surrounded by plants and a low stone wall; there were a couple of lampposts, and benches, tables, and chairs set about. The carpet was mottled with darker and lighter shades of green, to resemble grass growing and bending in different directions.

Our goal with this study is to get a glimpse into where people plan on living as they age, in particular, do they want to age in place, that is, stay in their own home and community, or do they want to live in an assisted living facility. To do so, we asked over 2,300 adults ages 50 and older questions about where they plan on living as they get older and what they'll do to make it as easy as possible.

How Retirement Housing Will Change for the Better
For a glimpse into the future of retirement communities and — pardon the odious term — "senior housing," you couldn't do much better than to ask Robert Kramer. He and several partners got together in 1991 to launch what has become the leading trade group for this industry, the National Investment Center for Seniors Housing and Care (NIC), based in Annapolis, Md.
