NASMM Increases CE Requirements for SMM~C and NASMM A+ Renewals
The NASMM A+ Accreditation & Certification Commission has recommended the following changes to NASMM's continuing education requirements for those members renewing certification and/or NASMM A+ Accreditation. The NASMM Board of Directors has approved these changes, and these changes are effective immediately. The change in these requirements mirrors continuing education requirements for similar organizations and are in keeping with NASMM's commitment to enhancing the professionalism of our designations.

Renewal Requirements by Year:

  1. CE Renewal Requirements
    1. If your certification renews in 2021 you will need 9 CEs for renewal
    2. If your certification renews in 2022 you will need 20 CEs for renewal
    3. If your certification renews in 2023 you will need 30 CEs for renewal
    4. If your certification renews in 2024 or after you will need 45 CEs for renewal
  2. CEs must be a minimum of 30 minutes as a baseline, and then can be counted in 15 minute increments (e.g., 45 minutes, 1hour 15 minutes). This metric is based on the idea that one continuing education unit is equivalent to one hour of education.
  3. Accepted CEs may be any of the following:
    1. NASMM conference session attendance
    2. Watching NASMM conference recordings
    3. Any NASMM online course offering
    4. Outside organizations’ live presentations or online courses in the following topics
      1. Leadership (including finance, hr, employment issues, marketing and sales, process improvement)
      2. Move management (including downsizing, organizing, packing, decorating, working with movers and other vendors, alternative revenue streams)
      3. Aging topics
      4. Safety
      5. Client communication and interactions
      6. Technology
      7. Ethics
    5. Proof of CEs, course completion or attendance should be submitted; if not, notes from coursework could serve as proof of attendance
    6. Presentations given by the SMM-C requesting renewal are specifically excluded
  4. 25 units of the 45 CEs must be obtained directly from NASMM conferences or courses

Searchers Recover Surfside Victims' Possessions, But Returning Them is Complicated
The building that collapsed in Surfside is unrecognizable: What was a high-rise home to many is now a gray pile of concrete and rebar mixed with the occasional flash of residents' possessions. Onlookers watch from the road as excavators scrape off layers of debris. Meanwhile, searchers slowly dig through and continue to retrieve a myriad of personal items from the site — that they've divided into a grid of nine squares — including jewelry, cash, art, firearms, and children's toys.
