Make Plans for 2018 Senior Move Managers Week
NASMM has declared May 13-19, 2018 National Senior Move Managers Week. During this recognition week, NASMM and NASMM members around the US, Canada, Europe and Australia are promoting the value of Senior Move Management and Senior Move Managers' commitment to assisting older adults and their families with later lifestyle transitions.

The theme of this year's celebration, "Passion + Purpose," underscores the dedication, compassion, commitment, an unique skills Senior Move Managers® offer their clients and families throughout the downsizing, relocation or aging in place process. Members can access a sample press release and this year's logo in the "Marketing Tools" section of "MyNASMM."

Old and Ageist: Why So Many Older People Have Prejudices About Their Peers — And Themselves
Ageist attitudes among the aged are common, say those who work with older people. Some people in their 80s reject senior housing because they don't want to live with old people. Once there, the more independent older residents often don't want to eat with people in wheelchairs, let alone those whose brains are faltering. They complain that they don't want the place to look like a nursing home.

Dementia Makes Communication Difficult, But Some Steps Can Make It Easier
My grandmother, who is 92, recently reported that she'd seen three giraffes in her Midwest back yard. She is otherwise sharp (and also kind and funny), but the giraffe episode was further evidence of the mild cognitive impairment that has been slowly creeping into her life. 90% Of Older People Want to Live at Home? Maybe Not
Researchers keep producing articles and reports saying that older people want to live at home. Well, duh! If you ask anyone about living at home you're going to get the same response (except teenagers, of course). What I really want to know is, of those people who are infirmed, that is, cannot make it to the bathroom on their own, feed themselves, go to the store, or bathe themselves safely, (all the Activities of Daily Living), how many of THEM want to live at home, especially if it means living by themselves?
